Morton in the Community are delighted to announce we will be delivering Greener Morton within Inverclyde again due to funding from the Climate Challenge Fund, which is a Scottish Government grant programme. This fund aims to reduce local carbon emissions, improve local areas and help them adapt to the impacts of climate change.
The project will consist of 4 main areas including delivering Carbon Literacy to around 2500 primary 4, 5 and 6 Inverclyde School pupils, a mobile kit and boot recycling facility, Recycling awareness around Cappielow for Supporters and an ECO fun day held at Cappielow on Sunday 28th May 2017.
Carbon Literacy Trail
Our Community coaches will be visiting all 20 primary schools and Craigmarloch ASN School in Inverclyde delivering Carbon Literacy through Eco workbooks and football activity. Each of the three primary groups will receive 6 weeks of coaching/ Eco messages. Eco Messages include Energy, Travel, Food and Recycling with both practical and classroom activity related to the Curriculum for Excellence.
The programme will kick off in August and we look forward to visiting all the schools.
Mobile Kit and Boot Recycling Facility
We will look to recycle any unused sports kit and equipment by handing this back out at community centres including, Branchton CC, Gibshill CC and CraigEnd Resource Centre. Kit and Equipment will also be used to remove barriers to participation for anyone attending our sessions.
In order to make this work we are looking for any sports kit/ equipment which is still in good condition to be donated to our Kit and Boot Recycling Facility.
Recycling Awareness – Cappielow Park
With an average home attendance of 2,200 we feel its crucial for the sustainability of our area that we are encouraging our supporters and visiting supporters to our stadium to recycle accordingly and efficiently. Through new signage and appropriate bins we will encourage a reduction in waste and an increase in recycling thus increasing the long term benefit to Inverclyde.
Eco Fun Day – Sunday 28th May 2017
The free Eco fun day will available to all residents of Inverclyde and will allow boys and girls aged 2-12 years the opportunity to participate in fun football on the hallowed Cappielow turf.
We are currently making final preparations for our free Eco fun day and more information will be circulated in the coming weeks.
The project officially started on April 1st 2017 and we are currently planning all 4 stages in order to spread the Eco message to as many Inverclyde residents as possible.
