Thanks to Tesco Bags of Help, Morton in the Community had the opportunity to grow their education projects after the success of The Greenock Morton Literacy Trail. Voting in both Greenock and Port Glasgow Tesco was open throughout the festive season of 2017 and Morton in the Community came out on top claiming £4000.
This money allowed Morton in the Community staff to develop the ‘Greenock Morton Numeracy Trail’ in partnership with Inverclyde Councils, Attainment Challenge team.
Fast forward 5 months since receiving funding we welcomed St Joseph’s primary 2s to Cappielow to engage in the trail. Over the past four weeks the children have been a credit to their school as they have enhanced their learning in Numeracy through a variety of workshops linked to the Curriculum for Excellence. These workshops included; The Club Shop, In the Changing Room and The Hungry Footballer.
Brian McLaughlin, Development Manager; “Having being involved in the Literacy Trail since day one, it’s clear the change of venue/ environment plays in enhancing learning within our education projects. The Numeracy Trail has been a fantastic addition to Morton in the Community’s list of projects. We have learned as staff how the project looks and we look forward to welcoming the next school to Cappielow after the Summer Holidays. Finally, thanks to Elaine from Inverclyde’s attainment challenge team and class teacher Miss O’Neill & Staff for the continued support throughout.”
Miss O’Neill, Primary 2 Class Teacher; “The content of the lessons was age and stage appropriate, which resulted in a fantastic assessment opportunity for me as I was able to see children applying knowledge from SEAL planner in a different context. All pupils were engaged, enthusiastic, motivated and all thoroughly enjoyed the learning experience, the delivery of the lessons was excellent.”
Special thanks to Inverclyde Council’s Attainment Challenge Team, the Inverclyde community who voted in both Tesco stores and project sponsor McGill’s Buses who provide the Greenock Morton team bus allowing the pupils to travel in style to and from Cappielow.
