POSITIVE GOALS | Ton Fan Jim Supported Back to Work
Jim Nelis, a lifelong Morton fan recently benefitted from engaging in Morton in the Community’s employability project Positive Goals. Securing work with local company Promedics.
Having been made redundant after nearly twenty years, Jim (62) from Port Glasgow, found himself engaging with Job Centre Plus for the first time. With the guidance from his work coach Jim was open minded about attending an information session at Cappielow to hear more about Positive Goals, and whether the project matched his needs.
Jim felt that being a mature worker his skills and experience weren’t being recognised by employers. Positive Goals supported Jim with solutions to his barriers.
Jim stated: “Positive Goals helped me get my focus back on track on what I needed to do to get recognised by employers.”
John Gemmell, National Commercial Manager at Promedics comments: “Jim has fitted well into the Customer Service Department, and goes about his business in a very professional manner.
“Jim has picked up the job with no problems, and has been very adaptable to the different aspects of the Customer Service Executive role.
“Jim has brought an assured, experienced head to Customer Services, and has been very approachable when dealing with different departments.”
Jim is one of many participants to have benefitted from Positive Goals, a project Morton in the Community have been delivering since January 2015.
Thus far, Positive Goals has supported almost fifty percent of participants into work or education with seventy one percent of this figure sustaining their destination six months later.
Additionally, Positive Goals positively impacts participants mental well-being with past participants telling they feel from confident and optimistic for the future having engaged in our six week project.

Positive Goals is a partnership between DWP Job Centre Plus, River Clyde Homes, Inverclyde Council’s Community Learning Development, Craigend Resource Centre, Financial Fitness and a number of local employers including EE and the Holiday Inn Express Greenock.
