Greenock Morton Community Trust are currently working with Key Fitness in a chance to win £32,000 to help Inverclyde’s elderly population.  The project “Greenock Across the Ages” has been shortlisted in this year’s “The People’s Millions” – a contest run by ITV and the Big Lottery Fund where the public votes decide which charity will win.

Today we need your help by picking up the phone and voting for our project.  Everyone can vote up to 10 times from now until midnight on 0871 6268132

Charity trustee and Morton FC Club Captain, Mark McLaughlin said “Key Fitness has an incredible track record in delivering high-quality programmes for young people but we feel that the waters are becoming crowded with numerous agencies trying to deliver diversionary and physical activity programmes.  We believe that the older generation are frequently overlooked in community projects.  Our project, entitled Greenock Across the Ages, will be a cross-generational project bringing the people of Greenock together”.

Key Fitness will deliver aspects of physical activity and will also be taking 30 older people to home matches to watch Greenock Morton here at Cappielow.  As social isolation is a major concern for this age group the Greenock Across the Ages project is unique in that it re-integrates older people back into community life by providing transport and tickets for Morton home matches with some physical activity being delivered by Morton players and community coaches creating a genuine sense of belonging.

STV were filming the short clip two weeks ago.  Our PR & Fundraising Manager, Karen was there speaking to some of the residents of River Clyde Homes who had been invited to join the activities that will be available if Key Fitness win the vote.   They were all delighted to be part of the day and wish Key Fitness the best of luck with their project.

The work of Key Fitness will be shown on STV evening news tonight between 6pm & 6.30pm.  More information is featured in today’s Greenock Telegraph and there will also be interviews during the day on YourRadioFM and Inverclyde Radio, so make sure you tune in to hear from the people involved with the project.

So please get on the phone today to vote and help Key Fitness make a huge difference to the older generation of Inverclyde.
