What a fantastic day our Morton Girls had yesterday.  GMCT welcomed Central Girls Football Academy (CGFA) to Clydeview Academy in the morning for a football festival which all the girls enjoyed.

In the afternoon all the girls from both clubs attended the Morton FC v Cowdenbeath match at Cappielow and at half time they took to the hallowed turf to play football in front of the cheering crowd.

Leeanne McPhail, Head Coach of Morton Girls said, “The girls had a great time playing on the pitch at half time and it was a great opportunity for them.  Thanks to Tom, Karen and everyone at Morton Community Trust for making it happen and for making the girls feel so welcome.  We say goodbye to one of our players, Eva O’Toole as he and her family move to America this week, so it was a great send off for her.”

It was great that CGFA made the trip to Greenock yesterday as they are one of the top girls clubs in Scotland.  The girls that played are currently domestic treble winners having won the League, League Cup and Scottish Cup last season – defeating Hearts 3-1 in the final.

CGFA have 8 teams from U9’s to U17’s where over 80 girls train 3 nights per week and they also have close links to professional clubs in the area, but in particular East Stirlingshire FC.

Head Coach, Ian Dibdin commented, “CGFA would like to thank Morton Community Trust for their hospitality and invitation to the match and we hope that the spectators enjoyed the half time entertainment as the clubs played against each other.  Girls football is this countries fasted growing sport and we hope that Morton’s new girls teams develop well and supported by the fantastic Morton fans CGFA will help support, continuing the strong relationship between the clubs.”
