Greenock Morton Community Teams took part in their annual sponsored walk on Saturday 17th September 2016, with the walk starting at Battery Park and finishing at Cappielow Park. Over 120 boys and girls aged between 4 and 17 took to the streets wearing their Morton badges with pride.
Starting at the Battery Park our under 17s, 15s, 13s, 12s and 11s girls were joined by our 2004s, 2005s and 2006 boys teams before walking across the Esplanade heading to the Beacon to meet our girls under 9s and 2007s, 2008s ,2009s, 2010s and 2011s boys teams. All players stopped at the Beacon to have lunch before heading to Cappielow to watch Morton vs Dunfermline.
Seated at the front of the Cowshed excitement was building as the first half kicked off with a fantastic goal by Gary Oliver, sending the Morton faithful wild. Half time was upon us and the Sponsored Walk continued as the players completed a lap of honour to a round of applause from the Morton faithful.
A fantastic day was had by all, especially after Jai Quitongo scored the winner, which was met by a lot of singing and cheers from our excited community players.
The day was particularly special for our 2005 player, Nathan Cannon and Morton Girls Under 9s player, Millie Paton, who got the opportunity to be the mascots for the day.
All at Morton in the Community would like to thank all the players, coaches and parents for making the day a very successful one. Finally, thanks to everyone who sponsored the children. We are hoping to make this an annual event, especially if we can guarantee sunshine and a Morton win.
