Morton Boys Sign for YA pic

Towards the end of last year, our 2007 squad naturally began trials for our elite under 11’s youth academy squad for next season.

From a squad of twenty-two players, twelve progressed to the next stage of the trial, competing in seven aside matches against boys from various regions within the West of Scotland.

Ten boys have been invited to the third stage of our comprehensive trial process which involves more matches during the month of January.

Two players, Harry Vance and Sam McGarva, impressed Head of Youth, Derek Anderson, Chief Scout, Mick King and Head of Junior Academy, Ross Gourdie, so much they were both asked to sign not the spot and continue their progression through our player pathway.

Both Harry and Sam progressed to Morton Boys having impressed community coaches at our holiday camps and Mini Morton sessions at Inverclyde Academy.

They have worked tirelessly with their coaches Jordan McCart, Paul Sefton, Graham Walker and Kris Juszczak since they signed with Morton Boys.

Kris Juszczak, Morton Boys volunteer and Community Coach, commented: “I am delighted for both boys to progress to our youth academy, it’s hugely humbling to work with both players and I sincerely hope they continue to progress for years to come”.

Blair Kelly, Team and Coach Coordinator, added: “It’s a great achievement for twelve out of twenty-two players to reach the first stage of the trials. The progress is a huge testament to the children for their efforts and the coaches who give up their time each week to help develop the children the best they can”,

Trials continue with six of our 2007 squad for next year’s under 11’s youth academy, we wish the best of luck to those attempting to make the step into the youth academy.
