Our kit and boot recycling facility is once again open for business, and we’re looking for donations. The facility is part of our Greener Morton project which is funded by the Scottish Governments Climate Challenge Fund part of the Keep Scotland Beautiful charity.
Our mobile facility will be visiting community centres across Inverclyde in the coming weeks and months, its purpose is to reduce the number of sports items going to landfill. For example, football boots, football strips, training kit, shin guards and trainers.
Brian McLaughlin, Development Manager, comments: ‘So often pieces of sports kit are sent to landfill despite being in good condition. The kit and boot recycling facility offers the opportunity to recycle items children have out grown back into the community.’
Community coaches Ross McLaren and Gemma Stewart, who are leading the delivery of Greener Morton combine the recycling facility with delivering carbon literacy sessions at every primary school in Inverclyde.
Gemma Stewart, Community Coach at Morton Community states: ‘Ross and I are hugely excited to re-engage the community with our kit and boot recycling facility.
‘We welcome donations large or small which can be made at our summer camps or at Cappielow.’
