Development Team2

January 2017 saw Morton’s Senior team kick off for the first time and it’s been so far so good with Laura Williamsons team sitting at the top of Scottish Woman’s Football League Division 2 – West.

Due to the growth and enthusiasm surrounding Morton Girls and the senior team we have an exciting opportunity to create a development team for woman and girls aged 17 and above.

The development team’s aim will be to support our player pathway and the transition to senior football. In a similar model used by Greenock Morton FC. Which has proved fruitful to first team players such as Jai Quitongo, Mark Russell and Scott Tiffoney, to name a few.

Laura Williamson, Morton girls project worker and senior team manager at Morton Community comments: “The senior team have a good mix of graduates from our 17s squad and experienced players brought in from out with our pathway.

“In our inaugural season this blend of youth and experience supported our younger players transition to the senior game.

“Now these younger players have a year under their belt of playing at a higher level and have adapted well to this with a good run in the league and managing to compete with some well-established teams.

“We believe creating a development team will support our current 17s squad transition to the senior game considering the early success our senior team has experienced thus far.”

If you are interested in being part of our development team and aged 17 and above Laura can be contacted on 01475 731949, 07736 280 187 or laura@mortoncommunity.net.
