Towards the end of last season our 2008 squad naturally participated in trials for Greenock Morton’s elite youth academy. Boys had the opportunity to impress head of youth Derek Anderson and head of junior academy coach Ross Gourdie.
Having stood out, two Morton community 2008 squad players Anthony McEwan and Craig Aitchison were offered the opportunity to sign for GMFC’s youth academy under eleven squad for next season, a chance both players gratefully accepted.
Both Anthony and Craig have engaged and participated in Morton in the Community projects since 2014 at various holiday camps whilst developing in our Morton community boys 2008 squad.
Blair Kelly, Morton in the Community Morton boys project worker commented: “I am delighted for both Anthony and Craig and wish them the very best as they continue to develop as football players through our pathway.
“Both players have had excellent guidance and support from their coaches David Kimmins, Alan Aitchison, Marc McCaig, David McLean and Graham Aitken. I cannot thank all our volunteers enough for the continued support, time and efforts.”
