On Saturday 31 March 2018 the Greenock Town Hall was packed with partners, funders, sponsors, parents, participants and staff as we celebrated five years of Morton in the Community in style.

Stuart McMillan MSP kicked the evening off by piping guests to their seats before Des McKeown took over the reins of the night’s events.

Guests were treated to two fabulous videos, created by We Film Golf, capturing the real impact of our work – which can be viewed on our Youtube channel. Followed by a wonderful four course meal provided by ICE Scotland.

Peter C Brown provided fantastic after dinner entertainment before an auction, silent auction and raffle helped raise over £10,000, supporting Morton in the Community projects.

However, the most emotional part of the evening was Morton in the Community’s Brian McLaughlin and Brian Mackie presenting Kris Juszczak’s mother Louise, and sister Pamela, with the Colin Wilson Mackie Morton in the Community coach of the year award.

In 2016, the family of the late Colin Wilson Mackie donated Morton in the Community a grant from Colin’s estate. This grant allowed us to develop additional mini and micro Morton sessions across Inverclyde, in turn increase our engagement. We then created the coach of the year award as a legacy to the family’s kind donation.

We can all agree Kris is a worthy winner for 2017.

Gordon McKillop, Morton in the Community Operations Manager comments: “After months of planning, the evening was immensely enjoyable. I cannot thank our guests enough for supporting our work and raising valuable funds.

“Awarding the Colin Wilson Mackie coach of the year award to Kris’ family was a touching yet deserving moment. Kris’ commitment and work was fantastic and we can only hope young coaches in our pathway recognise Kris as a role model.”
