Morton in the Community are excited to announce a new partnership with Canadian club AFC Southampton from Brampton, Ontario. A partnership, we believe, will be long-lasting and rewarding for both clubs.
To kick-start this partnership, Morton in the Community’s Sport Project Manager, Lee Mitchell and our Colin Wilson Mackie Memorial – Coach of the Year, James Barbour, will be flying out to Canada on Friday, 5thJuly for a 10-day stay to take part in AFC Southampton’s Summer Camp programme. Lee and James will host sessions along with AFC Southampton coaches, where they will share ideas and best practice.
A team of Under 14 boys from AFC Southampton will be traveling to Cappielow on 30thJuly to take part in a bespoke football camp designed by Morton in the Community. Our coaches will put on three training sessions for the squad over three days and we will invite them back to Cappielow for lunch each day. This camp will be designed to prepare the squad for when they go on to play in the Glasgow Cup on 3rdAugust.
Going forward, AFC Southampton would like to offer Morton in the Community two all-expenses paid trips to Canada, per year, for our coaches to gain coaching experience at their summer camps. We will have two coaches go out for a month in June, with another two coaches being chosen to go out for a month in August.
This opportunity will be offered to our most dedicated volunteer coaches throughout the year as a thank you for their hard work and commitment at Morton in the Community.
At Morton in the Community, we are looking to create exclusive and innovative incentives to reward our fantastic volunteers as a token of our appreciation for the terrific work and commitment they give us. We believe that this is a unique opportunity that will enhance our coaches’ abilities on and off the park. We are committed to not only improving our volunteers as coaches, but as people, and this opportunity will enhance their CV and provide them with an experience that they wouldn’t receive from volunteering at any other organisation.
