Morton in the Community (MITC) and Port Glasgow Juniors Community Sports Club (PGJCSC) are teaming up to deliver a three-day summer camp for girls aged 7 to 14 years.
This camp based at Port Glasgow Shared Campus will be delivered by MITC and PGJCSC coaches and will offer all girls the chance to play football, make new friends and emulate the stars of the Scottish National Team who inspired our nation at the Women’s World Cup in France.
Margaret Vize, PGJCSC; “On the back of the Woman’s World Cup, which had record attendance and record viewings, and with the under 19s European Ladies’ Championships being help around Glasgow captained by Inverclyde’s own Amy Muir, Port Glasgow Girls and Morton in the Community met and discussed various strategies to attract more girls to the game. Lee and I have met to discuss how we can make football more accessible for girls in Inverclyde and have agreed on this joint initiative for the soccer camp. Hopefully this is the first of many “new” things happening with girls’ football and can only be good for both clubs involved.”
Lee Mitchell, MITC; “This is a fantastic opportunity for two local community clubs to work together for the benefit of the girls’ game within Inverclyde. Off the back of the World Cup qualification success of the Scotland Women’s National Team. there is a real appetite for girls to get involved in the game. After speaking with Margaret Vize of Port Glasgow Juniors, it was clear to see that she shares the same vision we do for the girls’ game. Working together, we feel we can provide more and better opportunities throughout Inverclyde for girls to get involved in football. It’s an exciting partnership that we feel will only benefit and strengthen the girls’ game going forward.”
Kick-off for the camp will be Monday 12thAugust and run until Wednesday 14thAugust 2019. Each day will consist of fun football activities, challenges and small sided football matches. Sessions will run from 1pm to 4pm each day and cost £20 for the 3 days or £8 per day.
