ActivAGE

Thanks to the Changing Lives in Sport in Physical Activity Fund, we have teamed up with 8 care settings across Inverclyde to improve physical activity, enjoyment and social interaction for the residents. Previously having piloted this project in Newark Care Home in Port Glasgow for 18 months, we are delighted that we are now able to grow what is such a beneficial project for the residents in each care setting.

Our ActivAGE project outcomes are:
• People who are inactive becoming more active
• People socialise more and spend more time with other residents
• People enjoy better physical and mental health

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to assist with the delivery of this exciting new project. If you are interested in volunteering or are looking for more information, email our Health Project Worker, Jonny at jroy@mortoncommunity.net

Football Memories

In partnership with Alzheimer’s Scotland, Football Memories uses the memories of football to improve the lives of people with dementia, by encouraging participants to speak about the good old days and their past heroes. The sessions are held at Cappielow Park every Wednesday between 1:30pm – 3pm, in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, allowing the participants time to discuss teams, players, and games from the past. The group also have photographs and memorabilia to stimulate memories and communication.

The sessions follow a similar layout to a traditional football match which include a first and second half. Participants will also receive a pie and bovril at half time again to reminisce further and hopefully stimulate memories through smell and taste.

For more information regarding Football Memories, please contact Health Project Worker, Jonny, or call the office on 01475 731949.
